Last night I was finally able to resume classes at our school. We have been mostly out of session for over two weeks while the cleanup was in progress. It took the cleaning company a while to be able get the water from the sewer cleaned up enough to begin training. For many days they had large blowers and dehumidifiers running to try and dry out the carpets and walls. One of my agents at the school checked on the progress every day. One day the cleaning company had finally removed their blowers and we expected the cleaning up to begin. For several days it appeared that nothing was being done. I called the cleaning company to inquire about their progress and was informed that they were waiting to hear back from our landlord on whether they were supposed to clean or not after the water extraction. Needless to say I was a little frustrated by this and immediately contacted our landlord. The landlord said that they thought that the cleaning company had already started clean up and would call them. A few hours later I was called back by the cleaning company to set up a time for them to start the cleaning which they informed me would take approximately two hours. Unfortunately they could only do it on Friday. I hoped that they would be finished in time to have classes and it seems that they were done when my agent arrived at 2PM in the afternoon. I was glad to hear that it was done but discovered that they had only cleaned the carpets and not the tile floor in the entry way or cleaned up the bathroom where the whole mess started. Another call to the cleaning company revealed that the landlord had told them to only clean the carpets. This was contradictory to what I was told by the landlords handy-man who said they would extract the water, clean everything, and then disinfect it. The cleaning company said they would call the landlord and see if they would take care of paying for that cleaning also. All I can say is they better pay for it. We have been out of commission for over two weeks because the building was a health hazard and to me they need to complete the cleaning.
Since the training area was clean at least I decided to resume classes. It was really nice being able to teach again and work with my students. You could tell that most of them had not done much training over the two week hiatus. While I must admit having a break from teaching was nice and having a few nights to myself during the week was great, I am glad to be back teaching again.
