Cloisonne Factory, Beijing

My pictures of a cloisonne factory in Beijing, China from my 2008 trip to China. Cloisonne is a very detailed and tedious process that takes great skill to create. Thin copper metal bands are bent into tiny shapes and attached to copper vases and other pieces of art. Then the spaces between the metal ridges are filled with pigmentation and cured in high temperatures. Finally the objects are polished to a brilliant sheen using water and polishing wheels. The resulting vases and other art objects are beautiful.
